Chapter 6

PART 6:
Audrey’s arms slowly dropped.

“What camera?” Audrey said.

Lucas didn’t answer her.

The door opened hard.

A Military Police officer stepped inside, followed by a CPS caseworker and Lucas’s attorney in a gray suit.

The doctor stepped back.

The nurses looked at each other.

The baby cried once, then settled against Lucas’s chest.

The MP officer looked directly at Eleanor.

“Ma’am, step away from the child.”

Eleanor blinked.

“Excuse me?”

“Step away from the child.”

“I’m his grandmother.”

“And right now, you are not authorized to be near him.”

Audrey scoffed.

“This is insane. She’s his mother.”

Lucas turned his head slightly.

“No. Sophia is his mother.”

The words hit harder than a shout.

Sophia covered her mouth.

For two weeks, everyone had spoken around her.

Over her.

Through her.

Lucas was the first person to say the truth out loud.

The CPS worker approached Sophia gently.

“Ma’am, we have the hospital report, the neighbor’s statement, and the video your husband provided. We’re here to make sure you and your child are safe.”

Eleanor’s face flushed red.

“This is family business.”

Lucas’s attorney opened his folder.

“No, Mrs. Whitmore. This is documented abuse, interference with medical care, and unlawful control of access to a child.”

Eleanor looked at Lucas.

Her voice softened.

“Lucas, honey. You’re tired. You don’t understand what she’s done to this family.”

Lucas moved closer to Sophia’s bed.

He placed one hand gently over Sophia’s uninjured hand.

“I understand exactly what happened.”

Eleanor’s eyes filled, but it was not sadness.

It was calculation.

“She was going to take my grandson away.”

Sophia whispered, “I was taking him to the hospital.”

The doctor spoke from the corner.

“And based on his condition when he arrived, that was the correct decision.”

Eleanor turned on him.

“You don’t know her.”

The attorney slid a document onto the tray table.

“But the court will know you.”

Then he looked at Audrey.

“And you too.”

Audrey’s face went pale.

“For what? I didn’t touch her.”

“No,” Lucas said. “You just watched.”

May you like

The room went dead quiet.

👉 But Eleanor’s biggest lie was not about Sophia — it was about the house she claimed to control.
