Chapter 8

PART 8:
Three days later, Sophia came home.
But it felt like a different house.
The locks had been changed.
The spare key was gone.
Eleanor’s boxes were stacked in the garage for legal pickup.
Audrey’s belongings were gone too.
Lucas had taken leave.
He cleaned the nursery himself.
He moved the rocking chair back to where Sophia liked it.
He replaced her cracked phone.
And above the crib, the little camera stayed.
Not as a weapon.
As proof that the truth can survive even when someone tries to silence it.
A week later, Eleanor stood in family court wearing pearls and a wounded expression.
She tried to cry.
She tried to say she was only helping.
But the judge watched the footage.
The room listened as Eleanor’s own voice came through the speaker.
“Do not bother him over every little thing.”
“You are not taking him anywhere.”
“She had to learn respect.”
Eleanor looked down.
Audrey did not speak.
The judge granted the protective order.
Eleanor was ordered to stay away from Sophia, Lucas, the baby, and the home.
The hospital also filed its report.
Audrey was barred from contact unless approved by the court.
Eleanor lost the one thing she wanted most.
Control.
Not family.
Control.
Outside the courthouse, Sophia stood beside Lucas with the baby asleep in his carrier.
Reporters were not there.
No crowd.
No applause.
Just a quiet winter morning and a woman finally breathing without fear.
Lucas took her hand.
“I should have defended you sooner.”
Sophia looked at him.
“You defended us when it mattered.”
He shook his head.
“It mattered before.”
That was when Sophia saw the real change in him.
Not just anger at his mother.
Not just guilt.
A promise.
May you like
They went home together.
👉 But one month later, Eleanor tried to reach them one last time — and Lucas had to make his final choice.
