Chapter 6

PART 6:
At the hospital, Arthur improved faster than anyone expected.
Within twenty-four hours, his fever dropped.
Within two days, the marks on his neck stopped spreading.
Within three, he asked for pancakes.
Fiona cried in the supply closet where no one could see her.
Then she washed her face and went back to work.
Because the truth was not finished.
The investigation uncovered the rest slowly.
The pillow had not been bought from a store.
It had been custom-sewn.
The dark mesh had been inserted between layers of stuffing to keep the insects and sharp points close to Arthur’s neck when he slept.
The contaminant had been hidden inside the fibers.
Every night, when Arthur turned his head, the tiny points scratched his skin.
The insects carried the residue deeper into the wounds.
It was cruel.
Patient.
Deliberate.
And it had been happening for weeks.
Then the police found payment records.
A driver connected to the uncle had delivered packages to the mansion twice a month.
The maid who whispered to Fiona finally agreed to talk after the police promised protection.
She said the uncle ordered her never to touch the white pillows.
She said he replaced them himself.
She said once, when Arthur begged for a different pillow, the uncle told him, “Sick boys don’t make decisions.”
The old doctor looked ten years older after reading the statement.
He had served the family for decades.
He had seen violence.
He had seen silence.
But this was a child.
Arthur’s father had died the year before.
Arthur was the heir to everything.
The family businesses.
The properties.
The accounts.
The name.
If Arthur died, control would pass temporarily to his uncle.
If Arthur remained sick, the uncle could rule in his place.
That was the real disease in the room.
Not insects.
Not poison.
May you like
Greed.
👉 And at dawn, the uncle finally walked out of the mansion in handcuffs instead of power…
