PART 4:
For two days, Emily was kept inside the east wing of the estate.
Not tied up.
Not in a basement.
Nothing that would look obvious.
Just controlled.
Doors locked from the outside.
Food left on trays.
A security guard outside the hall.
Ethan coming in to beg, then yell, then cry, then blame her again.
“You’re making me look unstable,” he said.
Emily whispered, “You are unstable.”
That was when he grabbed her.
She hit the side table when she fell.
The bruise on her cheek came from that.
The bruises on her wrists came from trying to get away.
The bruises around her heart had been forming for months.
On the third morning, Emily saw her chance.
A new housekeeper left the service door unlatched while carrying linens.
Emily ran with no shoes, no phone, and no coat.
She made it to the road before a delivery driver saw her.
He almost drove past.
Then he saw the blood on her lip.
He took her to the hospital.
She gave the nurse her name.
Then she gave another name.
Colonel Victoria Hart.
“Please call my mother,” Emily said. “But don’t let anyone else take me.”
The nurse understood immediately.
But the Prescotts arrived first.
Of course they did.
Powerful families always arrived before the truth if they had enough money.
Margaret walked into the hospital like she owned the building.
Ethan followed, pale and tense.
Brandon came last, already laughing into his phone.
Margaret told the desk Emily was “confused.”
Ethan told the doctor his wife had “fallen during an emotional episode.”
Brandon told a nurse, “She’s always been fragile.”
Emily heard every word from the bed.
For a moment, she almost slipped back into old fear.
The fear that nobody would believe her.
The fear that money could rewrite bruises.
Then the doctor lifted her sleeve and saw the marks.
His expression changed.
He asked questions without Ethan in the room.
He documented everything.
Every bruise.
Every injury.
Every statement.
