Victoria stayed.
She sat beside Emily’s bed and held her hand the way she had when Emily was a child with a fever.
Emily looked at her mother’s uniform.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
Victoria’s face changed.
For the first time all day, the colonel disappeared.
Only the mother remained.
“You have nothing to be sorry for.”
“I hid it.”
“You survived it.”

Margaret was forced to resign from two hospital charity boards after it became public that she had tried to pressure staff to ignore a patient’s injuries.
Brandon’s company suspended him after the hallway video leaked during discovery.
