Chapter 15 - The Final Treatment Room

We followed Richard’s voice into the central laboratory.
He stood behind reinforced glass wearing a white medical coat.
Margaret stood beside him.
She had arrived before us.
On the table lay the original Winter Glass formula.
Richard had offered it to her.
Daniel looked at his mother-in-law.
“You brought us here.”
Margaret lowered her eyes.
“I needed him alive.”
“For the formula?”
“For the reversal treatment.”
Richard smiled.
“She understands legacy.”
I stepped toward the glass.
“You arranged our marriage.”
“Yes.”
“You selected Emma.”
“Yes.”
“You poisoned me as a child.”
“Yes.”
Each answer came without shame.
“Why confess now?”
“Because history remembers success, not methods.”
Federal agents surrounded the building outside, but the reinforced laboratory was isolated.
Richard held a detonator.
Explosives had been placed beneath the archive servers.
“If I die, the research dies.”
“That is not a threat,” I said.
His smile faded.
“You want it destroyed?”
“I want every victim record preserved. The formulas can burn.”
Margaret gasped.
“You cannot decide that.”
“I can decide what happens to my body and my daughter’s genetic data.”
“This could save millions.”
“It already destroyed hundreds.”
Richard looked at Margaret.
“She is still ruled by emotion.”
“No,” Daniel said. “She is ruled by consent.”
Margaret’s hands trembled.
Richard activated the laboratory speakers.
The childhood Christmas song grew louder.
Images flashed across the glass.
Videos of me at twelve.
Daniel at fifteen.
Children crying during tests.
My mother watched her younger self administer injections.
She finally saw the truth without the shelter of scientific language.
Richard handed her the detonator.
“Choose the future.”
She looked at him.
Then at me.
For twenty-three years, she had chosen the program.
This time, she pressed the emergency unlock instead.
The glass doors opened.
Federal agents entered.
Richard grabbed the detonator.
Daniel tackled him.
A gunshot cracked.
Richard fell against the console.
The detonator slid across the floor.
I picked it up.
Richard looked at me from the ground.
“You need the research to fix your husband.”
Daniel stood behind me.
Afraid.
Not of Richard.
Of what I would choose.
I placed the detonator beneath my shoe and crushed it.
“No treatment without consent.”
Agents arrested Richard.
Margaret surrendered.
The servers were seized.
The formulas were placed under court seal.
The clinic did not explode.
May you like
Richard had lied about the explosives.
Even at the end, fear was his favorite instrument.
