Chapter 3 - JASON ON THE RIDGE

Jason denied traveling to Afghanistan.
Passport records supported him.
Private aviation logs did not.
A Walker Global jet landed in Bagram under a shell registration forty-eight hours before the ambush.
Jason's encrypted phone connected to the black vehicle's satellite system.
The image showed him speaking with a uniformed officer.
Nathan Hale.
Not Marcus.
Nathan had worn the general's face during the operation.
Jason claimed he was there for a hostage negotiation involving Walker employees.
The audio recovery told another story.
Nathan said:
“Once Emma's convoy enters the valley, the route closes.”
Jason answered:
“And she survives?”
Nathan replied:
“If she follows orders.”
The ambush was designed as a loyalty test.
I had disobeyed.
Instead of holding defensive position, I crossed open ground, redirected air support, and pulled soldiers through a drainage corridor not shown on the map.
The program expected me to obey a fatal route.
My refusal saved eight.
It also exposed the operation.
Richard called me a tool because he believed the Army used me.
He was right about that.
He omitted that his company helped.
Then the ceremony hall's ventilation shut down.
Emergency lights activated.
Someone outside had locked the building into security mode.
A message appeared on every military tablet.
RETURN CAPTAIN WALKER TO STAGE POSITION.
The system wanted the ceremony to continue.
Not for honor.
For authentication.
My Medal of Honor presentation was the final trigger.
General Hale whispered, “This hall was chosen.”
The display case beneath the medal contained a biometric scanner.
My fingerprint and pulse during the award ceremony would unlock the hidden program archive.
The humiliation from my father had elevated my stress to the required level.
My family had been invited as emotional instruments.
Jason looked toward Richard.
“You said she only had to stand there.”
May you like
My father closed his eyes.
That was confession enough.
