Chapter 12 - The Blood Taken During Surgery

Dr. Crane had drawn extra blood during my C-section.
My goal was to find out what she tested.
The surgical inventory listed six vials.
Only four appeared in the lab system.
Two were transferred to a private genetics company owned by Carter Family Recovery Services.
Dana seized the results.
The first compared me to Gregory Shaw.
No biological relationship.
The second compared me to Eleanor.
No relationship.
Then a third encrypted report appeared after Maya recovered deleted files.
It compared me to David.
No close sibling relationship.
Eleanor already knew we were not related.
The forged certificate was pure psychological warfare.
But why test us at all?
The report included a larger family match.
Maya shared a close biological relationship with Daniel Carter.
Not siblings.
First cousins.
My mother’s family and Eleanor’s family were connected through another generation.
Patricia finally came to the hospital.
She looked smaller than I remembered.
She admitted her father had a second family.
One of his daughters was Eleanor.
That made Eleanor my mother’s half sister.
My aunt.
David’s adoptive mother was my biological aunt.
The family conflict was not random.
It began decades earlier.
Patricia said Eleanor hated her because their father left most of his money to Patricia’s mother.
Eleanor later built her medical network using stolen family assets.
Then Patricia revealed why I had been targeted specifically.
My grandfather created a trust for all biological grandchildren.
The trust activated when the first great-grandchild was born.
Liam.
As a biological descendant through Patricia, I controlled one branch.
Daniel and Noah controlled another through Eleanor.
Eleanor needed guardianship over me, David, or Liam to seize both.
The apartment, the hospital, and the custody case were all part of an inheritance war hidden beneath medical fraud.
But that still did not explain Dr. Crane’s devotion.
Patricia recognized Crane’s birth name.
Melissa Shaw.
Gregory Shaw’s daughter.
The surgeon was the attorney’s child.
Their family had operated the legal-medical pipeline together.
Eleanor financed it.
Shaw legalized it.
Crane diagnosed the mothers.
The system had survived because each branch protected the others.
Then Dana received a call from the prison intake center.
Gregory Shaw had been arrested.
Before questioning, he asked to speak only to me.
On the recorded call, he said, “Your mother is lying about the trust.”
Patricia stiffened.
Shaw continued.
“Liam did not activate it.”
“Then who did?”
“Claire Morgan’s baby.”
Claire’s missing son was also part of my family.
And according to Shaw, he had never been adopted.
He had been raised inside Eleanor’s home under another name.

I thought Noah was the hidden child linking our families—but Claire’s baby was someone we already knew.
The hospital bracelet number matched the man who had been pretending to be building security.
