Chapter 5 - Beatrice’s Messages

Beatrice’s messages were blunt.

CAROLINE IS A CONTAINER, NOT A PARTNER.

I had to stop reading.

Then continue.

My goal was to understand her role.

She pushed Luke toward me after the investigator report.

She arranged our “chance” meeting at a charity dinner.

She coached him on interests I had.

Books.

Restaurants.

Career goals.

He performed compatibility.

Then one message from Luke:

She likes me.

Beatrice:

Good. Keep it simple.

Another:

Luke:

She wants to wait before kids.

Beatrice:

Then move the clinic plan forward.

I had believed our first pregnancy attempts were mutual.

Now every conversation looked different.

Then Beatrice instructed Dr. Cole to schedule my polyp removal at his clinic.

She created the opportunity for secret transfer.

Then Charles Benton warned:

If Caroline conceives naturally after failed transfer, sex remains uncertain.

Beatrice:

Then repeat.

Repeat?

My blood went cold.

There had been another scheduled procedure six months later.

Canceled because I became pregnant.

They planned multiple embryo transfers until a boy implanted.

Then one message after my positive pregnancy test:

Luke:

She conceived.

Beatrice:

Test sex early.

Luke:

Too soon.

Beatrice:

Find a way.

Then unauthorized early fetal DNA testing.

Result: female.

That was when Luke’s behavior changed.

I remembered.

The insults began around week twelve.

He started asking whether “the doctor could be wrong.”

Then threats.

Then violence.

Cause and effect was now undeniable.

Then Maya asked whether Beatrice gained financially if Luke produced a son.

Yes.

She would control a 15% family trust block during the child’s minority.

That gave her power too.

Then Henry revealed they were separated because of this obsession.

Beatrice had refused to sign the amendment removing male preference.

Luke and Beatrice were aligned.

Then bank records showed Beatrice paid Dr. Cole $900,000 over five years.

Not clinic fees.

Consulting.

Then Dr. Cole was arrested.

He denied knowing about violence.

But admitted embryo creation and transfer.

He claimed he believed Luke had Caroline’s consent.

Forgery disproved that.

Then he offered cooperation.

He said Beatrice’s plan went beyond a son.

She wanted two sons.

Why?

The trust had a second clause.

If two male descendants existed, Beatrice’s trustee role became permanent for twenty years.

There it was.

One child for Luke.

Two for Beatrice.

Then Dr. Cole revealed there were four frozen embryos created from my tissue.

Three male.

One female.

One male had been transferred and failed.

Three remained.

Beatrice had recently asked for shipment.

Destination:

A fertility clinic in Mexico.

Why?

To use a surrogate if I refused further pregnancy.

The embryos contained my genetic material.

They planned to create my biological children without me.

I thought my current baby was the only child at risk—but three frozen embryos containing my DNA were already being prepared for transport outside the country.

**Beatrice planned to use my remaining embryos with a surrogate if I refused to produce the sons the trust required.**

*The shipping authorization showed who had agreed to carry one of those embryos—and the name was someone I trusted.*
