Chapter 9 - DANIEL RETURNS
Daniel returned to the apartment under police supervision to collect personal property.
I watched remotely from the hospital.
He looked calm.
He packed suits, watches, and documents.
Then he looked directly into the security camera.
“Maya, you’re hearing only their version.”
He knew I was watching.
He lifted a second handwritten note.
This one appeared to be from me.
I can’t care for Liam. Vanessa should take him.
My handwriting.
Real.
I remembered writing a grocery list on a blank pad before delivery.
Daniel had transferred the words and added text around them.
The pattern repeated.
Real hand.
False consent.
Then he opened a hidden panel beneath the kitchen counter.
Inside was a small recording device.
It contained months of my exhaustion, crying, and arguments.
Edited clips portrayed me as unstable.
Full recordings showed Daniel waking me repeatedly, withholding food, and telling me Liam would die if I slept.
Psychological torture manufactured the symptoms later used against me.
The police arrested him before he left.
