The hidden room opened behind the basement staircase.
Inside were filing cabinets, hard drives, property deeds, and video monitors.
Arthur had documented the family for three years.
Daniel meeting shell-company representatives.
Melissa entering a private bank.
My signature forged on loan documents.
One video showed Daniel arguing with Arthur.
“You’re leaving everything to Mom?”
“It’s hers.”
“She’ll waste it.”
“She built it with me.”
Then Melissa entered.
“Once he’s gone, we move her out.”
Arthur looked directly at the hidden camera.
The porch had been planned before his death.
My eviction was not an emotional decision made in grief.
It was part of the financial scheme.
Then another file appeared.
ETHAN AND EMMA CUSTODY CONTINGENCY.
Arthur had feared the children might be used as leverage.
The document named me temporary guardian if Daniel committed elder abuse or estate fraud.
Daniel saw it.
His face collapsed.
Melissa whispered:
“You said he never changed the guardianship.”
He had lied to her too.
Then the basement monitor turned on.
Arthur appeared live.

“Helen, if you found the room, Robert has already betrayed me.”
