Chapter 14 - The Daughter He Used

“I didn’t need to erase you,” Lucas snapped. “Claire was prepared to support the competency petition.”

Claire stared at him.

“What petition?”

Lucas’s face drained.

He had spoken too quickly.

Rebecca turned to Claire.

“A petition declaring Margot unable to manage her affairs.”

Claire shook her head.

“I never agreed to that.”

Lucas pointed toward her phone.

“You sent messages saying you were concerned.”

“You told me Mom was wandering, forgetting appointments, and refusing medication.”

Margot felt the final pieces lock together.

Lucas had manipulated Claire’s concern into evidence.

He had created the prescription.

Restricted access to legal files.

Moved income.

Forged signatures.

Prepared divorce documents.

And planted a false medical narrative that could silence Margot if she resisted.

Claire’s eyes filled with tears.

“You used me.”

“I was protecting this family.”

“No,” Claire said. “You were protecting yourself.”

She opened her messages and forwarded the entire conversation to Rebecca.

Lucas moved toward the front door.

Rebecca blocked him with one sentence.

“The accounts have already been placed under emergency review.”

His shoulders went rigid.

“You can’t freeze my money.”

Margot looked at him steadily.

“My money, Lucas.”
