Chapter 16 - Claire Chooses the Truth

Claire seized her father’s wrist with both hands.
The paper stopped inches from the fire.
“Let go,” Lucas ordered.
“No.”
“I’m your father.”
“And she’s my mother.”
Claire twisted the document away and stepped back.
Lucas looked stunned—not because she had stopped him, but because she had disobeyed.
Margot took the will from Claire.
The document named Lucas as sole beneficiary and removed Claire almost entirely.
Lucas had been using their daughter while planning to abandon her too.
Claire read the page.
Her face crumpled.
“You told me everything was for my future.”
Lucas searched for another lie.
None arrived quickly enough.
Margot wrapped one arm around Claire.
For years, Lucas had kept them emotionally separated by telling each woman the other was fragile, demanding, or ungrateful.
Now they stood together.
Rebecca secured the will, the divorce agreement, the forged royalty authorization, the prescription bottle, and the recordings.
Lucas sank into a chair.
The arrogance had drained from him.
“What happens now?” he asked.
Margot looked at the man who had expected her to sign away her identity.
“Now I read everything.”

She and Claire walked out of the room without waiting for permission.
👉 But rebuilding Margot’s life required more than exposing Lucas—it required proving exactly how much he had taken.
