Nursery doorway.
Marcus’s study.
My likely route carrying Leo after lunch.
A note beside my position:

I stared.
She had watched me enough to predict my body.

Physical provocation must occur after carrier contact so defensive attachment appears excessive.
Meaning she wanted me to cling harder to Leo.
Then accuse me of possessiveness.
It was psychological choreography.

If Marcus present unexpectedly, abort.
She failed at her own contingency.
Because when his footsteps sounded, she was already too far into it.
That was why her face changed.
Not because she regretted hurting me.

Not clinical.
Victoria’s notes.
She had turned Leo’s love into evidence.
I cried in the attorney’s conference room.
Not loudly.

Marcus sat across from me and did not touch me.

I needed space more than comfort.

I watched Marcus receive that ruling.
He did not celebrate.
“She’s his mother,” he said quietly.

That was the right emotional question now.
