Hale was arrested inside the underground courtroom.
He claimed he came to destroy evidence.
Investigators found gasoline and matches.
They also found Walter’s private ledger in his briefcase.
Hale had been protecting the family operation.
The ledger revealed three sons raised for different purposes.
Jonathan handled corporations.
Samuel Vale handled law.
Michael handled families.
Each believed he was independent.
Each served Walter.
Michael received the news in jail.
“My whole life was assigned.”
“So was mine,” I said.
“The difference is what we did after learning.”
He lowered his eyes.
The ledger also identified the missing Bluebonnet child.
A fourteen-year-old boy named Ethan.
He lived under another identity with a wealthy family in Dallas.
The family had paid Genesis for exclusive medical access.
When agents reached the home, the family had fled.
Ethan left behind a video message.
He knew about Grace.
He knew about me.
Walter told him he was the only successful male subject.
He believed my unborn daughter would be used to cure him of a degenerative illness.
He begged me not to stop the treatment.
The boy was not a villain.
He was sick and terrified.
Walter used desperation as effectively as violence.
Doctors reviewed the research.
My daughter’s cord blood might help Ethan.
But Genesis planned procedures that could endanger her.
A safe treatment might be possible with consent and independent oversight.
I agreed to explore it after birth.
Not because Walter demanded it.
Because a child deserved help without another child becoming property.
Grace listened.
“Would you help him even after what they did?”
“He didn’t do it.”
That answer mattered to her.
She had spent six years fearing the crimes around her had become part of her identity.
Then the farmhouse cameras activated remotely.
