The underground ledger listed Lily as Carter Subject Nine.
Status: transferred.
Location: unknown.
Grace had tried to stop the transfer.
Video showed her entering the delivery room while I lay unconscious.
Margaret ordered staff to remove her.
Thomas stood in the hallway and did nothing.
He watched them take my first daughter.
“I was afraid they would kill you,” he said.
“You let them erase her.”
“I thought I could find her later.”
“Did you?”
His silence answered me.
Ortiz traced Lily’s identification code to a private pediatric research center in Colorado.
The center denied treating her.
Federal warrants uncovered sealed records.
Lily was alive and living under guardianship with Dr. Samuel Vale.
Vale claimed she was his adopted granddaughter.
DNA testing proved she was mine.
Before agents could remove her, Vale fled with the child.
A security camera captured Lily leaving willingly.
She believed Vale was her family.
He had told her I died.
Grace appeared in the footage too.
She followed them into the vehicle.
My mother had found my daughter.
But I could not tell whether she was rescuing Lily or helping Vale escape.
Then Grace called me.
Her voice shook.
“Emily, I have Lily.”
“Bring her to the police.”
“I can’t.”
