Chapter 5
Olivia’s face burned red.
“I didn’t know it was company money.”
Emma looked at her.
“Then you should have asked why your ‘consulting bonus’ was paid from an account with no clients.”
Olivia opened her mouth.
No words came out.
Daniel grabbed her arm.
“We’re going inside.”
Emma stepped aside.
“Please do.”
The hearing lasted less than an hour.
Daniel’s legal team walked in confident.
They walked out shaken.
The judge reviewed the emergency motion, the restructuring agreement, and the preliminary financial evidence.
Daniel’s attorney argued that the agreement was old.
Emma’s attorney replied that fraud did not expire just because Daniel forgot he had signed consequences.
The judge froze several company accounts.
Temporarily removed Daniel from financial control.
Ordered preservation of all electronic records.
And referred the fraud allegations for further review.
Daniel sat at the table staring straight ahead.
Olivia was not allowed in the courtroom because she was now a potential witness.
That alone humiliated him more than anything.
For years, Daniel had controlled rooms by deciding who belonged in them.
Now a court officer told Olivia to wait outside.
Emma sat through it with one hand over her belly, breathing through the back pain she had hidden all morning.
She was tired.
Her ankles hurt.
Her heart hurt worse.
But when the judge asked if she understood what she was requesting, Emma looked up.
“Yes, Your Honor,” she said. “I am protecting my child’s future and the company I helped build.”
Daniel turned toward her then.
His eyes were full of anger.
Not regret.
Anger.
