After the hearing, reporters crowded the courthouse steps again.
Daniel tried to push past them.
But Olivia was waiting near the pillars, crying.
“Did you use me?” she asked.
Daniel’s jaw tightened.
“Don’t do this here.”
Emma almost laughed.
That was always his line.
Not here.
Not now.
Not in front of people.
He never hated cruelty.
He hated witnesses.
Olivia backed away from him.
“You told me Emma was taking everything.”
Emma looked at her.
“He told me you were just an employee.”
Olivia’s face crumpled.
For the first time, the two women saw the same man.
Not the charming version.
Not the victim he played when cornered.
The real one.
Daniel pointed at Emma.
“You think you won because of some paperwork?”
Emma’s attorney stepped in.
“No, Mr. Carter. She won because you signed paperwork, broke it, hid money, and then brought a witness to your misconduct to court on your arm.”
The cameras captured every word.
Daniel lunged forward half a step.
A courthouse officer moved immediately.
“Sir, step back.”
Daniel stopped, humiliated.
Emma looked at him calmly.
“This is what accountability feels like,” she said. “You’re just not used to it.”
In the weeks that followed, Daniel’s perfect public image collapsed.
The board removed him from all operational decisions pending investigation.
The forensic audit confirmed that he had misclassified personal expenses, concealed transfers, and attempted to move assets after the divorce petition.
Investors who once praised his vision now asked why Emma had been kept away from financial meetings.
Employees began coming forward.
An assistant admitted Daniel had ordered her to delete calendar entries.
A finance manager turned over emails.
A former driver confirmed he had taken Daniel and Olivia to hotels listed as “site visits.”
Olivia resigned before the investigation ended.
She sent Emma one email.
It was short.
I believed what he told me because it made me feel chosen. I am sorry for what I said on the courthouse steps. I will cooperate fully.
Emma read it twice.
Then she closed it.
An apology did not erase humiliation.
