Chapter 11 - THE COLLAR WITHOUT THE DOG

Hale did not take Natsu.

He took the collar.

The memory chip inside it carried the audio evidence.

But investigators had already copied it.

Hale wanted the silver plate for another reason.

The collar’s metal had been forged from the service chains of the original rescue team.

Each tag contained a fragment of an encryption key.

The full chain could open the prisoner archive.

Hale now possessed Natsu’s fragment.

Nathan had the master key.

Daniel remembered the final phrase.

Three parts.

Hale planned to reconstruct the system at the mountain site.

We followed only after obtaining legal authority and international cooperation.

The site lay across a border and required diplomatic clearance.

No private revenge mission.

Natsu wore a plain working collar now.

He seemed lighter without the artifact.

Then Daniel remembered something else.

The final phrase was not a code.

It was a command spoken to Natsu during rescue.

HOME.

The archive had been designed to open when the dog heard Daniel say it.

Hale needed both of them.

Then Daniel disappeared from medical protection.
