Chapter 15 - WHAT I DID WITH THE ESTATE
Jonathan removed the redevelopment plan.
Charles expected me to claim the mansion as my personal home.
I had no intention of raising my children in a place where their mother had been treated as an inconvenience.
The main residence would become a recovery center for military families.
One wing would support mothers recovering from complicated births while spouses returned from deployment.
Another would provide housing for families of wounded service members.
The estate employees would keep their jobs.
The groundskeepers would remain in their cottages.
Pension accounts would be placed under independent management.
Charles and Victoria could remain temporarily in a separate wing while the investigation continued.
Arthur read the proposal.
“You planned this before today.”
“Yes.”
“You’re taking our family home.”
“Your father lost it.”
“You could give it back.”
“To the man who hid sixty-two million dollars in liabilities?”
Charles glared at me.
“You think your uniform makes you better than us.”
“No.”
I looked at the workers gathered behind the police line.
“Accountability does.”
Arthur lowered the papers.
