The audit required six weeks.
Investigators traced dozens of accounts.
Maris had diverted Victor’s monthly support into a company called Silver Legacy Management.
She controlled it through a nominee director.
From there, the money moved into property accounts, personal expenses, and payments to Leonard.
The trust withdrawals followed a separate path.
Some funded the waterfront estate.
Some covered losses from a failed investment Maris concealed from Victor.
Some paid private investigators who monitored Catherine.
The loan opened in Annie’s name financed renovations at the estate.
Every stolen dollar served the same purpose.

The total was larger than Victor expected.
He refused to discuss the exact number around Annie.
The amount mattered legally.

During the same month Maris purchased a $70,000 chandelier for the waterfront house, Catherine received an eviction notice.
Annie missed school for six weeks because they moved between temporary rooms.
Victor sat with the audit report until sunrise.
Brian found him there.
“I should have told you sooner,” Brian said.
Victor did not look up.
“Yes.”
“I was afraid.”
“So was Catherine.”
Brian nodded.
“So was Annie.”
Victor finally looked at him.
“What do you expect from me?”
“Nothing.”
Brian placed his chauffeur keys on the desk.
“I’m resigning.”
Victor stared at them.
“My silence helped her.”
“You also brought the evidence.”
“Too late.”
Victor understood the need for consequence.
He accepted the resignation.
But he offered to protect Brian’s wife’s medical coverage independently from employment.
Brian shook his head.
“I don’t deserve kindness.”
“This is not payment for silence. Your wife had nothing to do with your choices.”
Brian’s eyes filled.
He accepted only after Victor placed the arrangement through an outside administrator.
Before leaving, Brian gave Victor one final item.
A small audio recorder.
Maris had forgotten it inside the car after a meeting with Leonard.
The recording captured her discussing how to make Catherine disappear legally.
She did not mean murder.
She meant destroying Catherine’s identity, credibility, finances, and access to Victor.
