Chapter 10 - Brooke’s Sworn Lie

Brooke had signed an affidavit stating she witnessed Ruby scream at the toddler, throw objects, and threaten to disappear with the child.
None of it happened.
The document was dated three days earlier.
Ruby looked at Brooke.
“You swore to this.”
Brooke’s lips trembled.
“Jameson said it was a backup.”
“A backup for stealing my daughter?”
“I didn’t think he would file it.”
Jameson shouted, “You knew exactly what it was!”
Brooke turned on him.
“You told me Ruby had hit you.”
Jameson’s head jerked up.
Ruby stared at him.
“When?”
He said nothing.
Brooke continued.
“He showed me a bruise on his ribs.”
Eliana interrupted.
“He got that moving furniture.”
Jameson looked at his mother.
The lie collapsed instantly.
Brooke covered her mouth.
“You staged that too?”
Eliana’s composure finally shattered.
“Everything was necessary because Ruby refused to cooperate!”
The relatives behind the tape recoiled.
The officer remained still but attentive.
Ruby’s phone captured every word.
Rachel asked Brooke whether Jameson had instructed her to lie under oath.
Brooke hesitated.
Then she nodded.
“I have messages.”
Jameson lunged toward her phone.
The officer stepped between them.
“Do not move closer.”
Jameson stopped.
His breathing became ragged.
Brooke unlocked the messages.
Jameson had written:
SAY SHE’S VOLATILE. ONCE THE PETITION IS FILED, SHE’LL SIGN ANYTHING TO GET THE BABY BACK.
Ruby closed her eyes.
The cruelty was not theoretical anymore.
Her husband had calculated how much terror it would take to break her.
When she opened her eyes, there were no tears.
Only clarity.
“You were going to let me believe I had lost her.”
Jameson’s face crumpled.
“I was going to withdraw the petition after you signed.”
“You expected me to thank you?”
“No.”
“You expected me to stay afraid.”
He dropped to his knees.
Not as part of a strategy.
Because his legs could no longer hold him.
“Ruby, please.”
She stepped away.
“You used our daughter as a weapon.”
“I can fix this.”
“No. You can answer for it.”
Rachel called the family court clerk and provided the fraudulent petition.
The filing was blocked before submission.
The false affidavit became evidence.
Brooke began crying.
Eliana blamed Jameson.
Jameson blamed Eliana.
Ruby looked toward the locked house.
She no longer saw a home.
May you like
She saw a structure they had tried to turn into a cage.
👉 The custody trap failed before it could be filed—but Jameson still believed the divorce papers had one clause Ruby could not escape.
