Chapter 6 - The House Behind the Tape

The officer asked Jameson to step aside.

He refused.

“This is a domestic dispute.”

Rachel answered calmly.

“It became a property-fraud investigation when a forged deed was used to claim ownership.”

Eliana began shouting.

“My family paid for this house!”

Ruby’s phone continued recording.

Rachel looked at her.

“Would you like to repeat that after seeing the escrow transfer?”

Eliana went quiet.

The civil investigator entered with the officer.

They photographed the home office, closing documents, and a locked filing cabinet.

Ruby had already provided screenshots showing Jameson placed the original deed, tax records, and banking correspondence inside it.

The officer did not arrest anyone.

He simply required the occupants to remain outside while evidence was documented.

Brooke stepped onto the lawn wearing Ruby’s robe.

She looked furious.

“Why am I being treated like a criminal?”

Ruby glanced at the robe.

“You broke into my closet.”

“I live here.”

Jameson looked at her sharply.

“You don’t live here.”

Brooke stared at him.

“You told me to move my things in.”

Eliana hissed, “Stop talking.”

But Brooke was panicking.

“My clothes are upstairs. My medication is upstairs. You changed the alarm code for me.”

The officer heard everything.

Jameson lowered his voice.

“Brooke, be quiet.”

Ruby watched the final piece fall into place.

Jameson had moved Brooke into the home before serving divorce papers.

He intended to portray Ruby as having voluntarily abandoned the residence.

Brooke had received mail there.

That created a timeline.

Rachel asked the investigator to preserve alarm-access records and front-door camera footage.

Jameson’s anger became visible.

“You planned this.”

Ruby looked at him.

“No. I discovered your plan.”

Eliana stepped toward Ruby.

“You ungrateful little—”

The officer moved between them.

“Ma’am, remain where you are.”

Eliana recoiled, humiliated.

The investigator emerged carrying the thick closing folder.

Inside was the original transfer form with Ruby’s forged signature.

There was also a printed email from Eliana to her cousin.

BACKDATE IT. RUBY WILL NEVER CHECK.

Jameson read the line over the investigator’s shoulder.

He turned toward his mother.

“You kept that?”

“I thought it was destroyed.”

Brooke began backing toward the driveway.

She no longer wanted to be associated with anyone there.

Then the investigator asked her a question.

“Ms. Carter, when did you first receive a key to this house?”

Brooke stopped.

Ruby had never heard the surname Carter.

May you like

That was not Brooke’s legal name.

👉 Brooke had been using a false last name around Ruby—and her real identity connected her directly to Jameson’s hidden company.
