Chapter 11 - Every Rule Was a Confession

Taylor placed the black notebook on the ballroom table.
“You wrote these rules twenty-eight years ago,” she said.
Tabitha folded her arms.
“Household standards are not crimes.”
“Some of them are.”
Taylor opened to Rule Thirty-One.
“No family financial document may be removed from the study without the approval of the senior woman of the house.”
She turned another page.
“No trust beneficiary may contact an outside attorney without permission.”
Another.
“Younger household members must surrender all mail concerning banks, courts, or property.”
Murmurs spread among the guests.
Taylor looked around the room.
“These were not traditions. They were a system.”
Sarah stepped forward.
“They prevented me from seeing legal notices.”
Colin added, “They gave my mother control over documents sent in my name.”
Tabitha’s voice rose.
“You are twisting private family customs!”
Taylor opened the final section.
“Then explain Rule Forty-Six.”
Tabitha’s face drained.
Taylor read it aloud.
“Any person who questions the management of Morgan assets will be removed from the home and declared disloyal.”
Sarah closed her eyes.
That was exactly what had happened to her.
Taylor continued.
“The date beside this rule is three days after Sarah confronted you about the missing money.”
Tabitha lunged for the notebook.
Colin blocked her.
The guests stepped backward.
Her carefully controlled face collapsed into rage.
“You think a notebook proves anything?”
“No,” Taylor said.
“The notebook explains the motive.”
She nodded toward Sarah.
“The bank records prove the theft.”
She nodded toward Colin.
“The account proves the concealment.”
Then she looked toward the ceiling camera.
“And tonight’s recording proves the intimidation never stopped.”

Sirens sounded beyond the mansion gates.
👉 Tabitha had spent decades controlling the room—but now the people entering it answered to no one in the Morgan family.
