Chapter 2 - The Bride Who Did Not Cry

The reception continued, but the celebration was dead.
Taylor served tea to every table.
She poured for the men first.
Then the older women.
Then the guests.
She remained standing while everyone else ate the wedding dinner she had helped choose.
Tabitha watched her with open satisfaction.
“She learns quickly,” she told a woman beside her.
Taylor heard every word.
She did not react.
Colin approached her near the serving station after midnight.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered.
Taylor kept her eyes on the coffee pot.
“You had a chance to speak.”
“I tried.”
“No. You made a sound.”
He flinched.
“My mother has always been difficult.”
Taylor finally looked at him.
“She humiliated your wife at her wedding, Colin.”
“I’ll talk to her tomorrow.”
“You’ve been saying that for five years.”
His face tightened.
They had dated for three years before getting engaged.
During that time, Tabitha had criticized Taylor’s job, her clothes, her copper-red hair, her divorced parents, and even the way she held a wineglass.
Colin always called it tradition.
Taylor had believed marriage would force him to choose.
Instead, marriage had revealed that he already had.
Across the room, Tabitha opened the black notebook.
She turned the first page.
Her smile returned when she saw the handwritten title:
MORGAN FAMILY HOUSEHOLD RULES.
She did not notice Taylor watching her.
Nor did she notice Taylor quietly photographing the room, the dinner table, and every untouched place setting with her phone.
At 1:15 a.m., Taylor left the ballroom alone.
She carried the notebook with her.

And before going upstairs, she entered the mansion kitchen and changed every alarm clock on the wall.
👉 By dawn, Tabitha would discover that Taylor had read the family rules far more carefully than anyone before her.
