Chapter 8

PART 8:

His mother whispered, “We apologized.”

“No,” Ethan said. “You explained. You blamed. You minimized. That is not an apology.”

His mother looked toward the door.

“She’s keeping you from us.”

Ethan shook his head.

“She doesn’t even know you’re here. This is me.”

That hurt them more than anything.

Because for months they had told themselves Emily was the problem.

Now they had to face the truth.

Ethan had seen them clearly.

And he had chosen to protect his wife.

The hospital security officer nearby stepped closer.

Ethan lowered his voice.

“When Emily is ready, she will decide what contact looks like. Until then, you will not come to our house. You will not call her. You will not post about my son. And if that video of her appears anywhere, I will take legal action.”

His sister’s face went pale.

His mother looked stunned.

“You would do that to your family?”

Ethan’s answer was quiet.

“I should have done it sooner.”

They left with the flowers still in their hands.

Inside the room, Emily was sleeping with the baby curled against her.

Ethan sat beside them and cried silently.

Not from weakness.

From the weight of finally becoming the husband he should have been before the ambulance arrived.

When Emily woke, he told her they had come.

She looked afraid for one second.

Then he said, “They didn’t get in.”

Her eyes filled.

“You stopped them?”

“I will stop anyone who hurts you,” he said. “Even if they have my last name.”

Months passed.

The house became peaceful again.

The nursery smelled like baby lotion and clean blankets.

The kitchen stayed clean because Ethan made a rule.

No one eats without helping.

No one visits without respect.

May you like

No one calls Emily weak in the house she helped build.

👉 But peace did not mean everyone was forgiven — and Ethan’s family would have to earn even one step back inside.
