Chapter 7 - The Missing Nanny

Her name was Rachel Foster.

She had worked in the Romano mansion for nine months.

She was patient with Lucy and trusted by Vittorio.

Then, almost overnight, Rachel resigned.

Bianca told everyone Rachel had received a better offer in Boston.

Vittorio sent a generous farewell payment.

Rachel never acknowledged it.

At the time, he assumed she wanted a clean break.

Now Emma revealed what had actually happened.

Rachel had once walked into Lucy’s nursery and found Bianca gripping the child’s arm while Marcus stood by the door.

Rachel threatened to report them.

Two days later, security footage appeared to show Rachel removing jewelry from Bianca’s dressing room.

The image was grainy.

The angle was poor.

But it was enough.

Rachel was confronted privately.

She resigned that afternoon.

Emma had always believed the theft accusation was false.

Now investigators examined the archived security files.

The supposed theft footage carried an unusual export code.

It had not come directly from the mansion’s camera server.

It had been rendered through editing software first.

The video had been altered.

Marcus had framed Rachel.

The original footage from that afternoon had been deleted.

But cloud synchronization had preserved a low-resolution backup.

In the real recording, Rachel never touched Bianca’s jewelry.

She merely entered the dressing room carrying freshly laundered clothing.

Vittorio felt sick.

A young woman had lost her job and reputation because she tried to protect his daughter.

Investigators located Rachel in Massachusetts.

She had changed numbers.

She was working at a daycare center and had spent months terrified that the Romano family would pursue her for theft.

When authorities explained what had been uncovered, Rachel agreed to provide a statement.

Her account filled several gaps.

She remembered Bianca becoming obsessed with one subject shortly before her resignation.

The Romano engagement agreement.

Bianca had apparently believed marriage would give her far more financial power than it actually did.

Then she discovered Vittorio intended to sign a strict prenuptial agreement.

Rachel had overheard the argument that followed.

From that week forward, Bianca’s behavior toward Lucy became visibly worse.
