Chapter 5
PART 5:
Now Lily stood near the bench, hugging the bear.
Judge Whitaker spoke gently.
“Lily, you are not in trouble.”
Lily nodded, but tears slipped down her face.
Daniel forced a soft voice.
“Sweetheart, come here.”
Lily stepped back.
Emma’s heart cracked.
Judge Whitaker saw it.
So did everyone else.
The judge looked at the child advocate.
“Has the court received the audio file and transcript?”
“Yes, Your Honor.”
Daniel’s attorney went pale.
Vanessa sat up straight.
“What audio file?”
Judge Whitaker’s eyes moved to Daniel.
“The recording in which Mr. Parker and Ms. Vanessa Reed discuss portraying Emma as mentally unstable in order to influence custody and property proceedings.”
The courtroom exploded in whispers.
Daniel turned on Lily.
“You recorded me?”
The judge’s gavel slammed again.
“Mr. Parker, you will not address the child.”
Lily flinched anyway.
Emma stood halfway up from her chair, but her attorney gently touched her arm.
Judge Whitaker looked at Lily.
“Can you tell the court why you recorded it?”
Lily looked at Emma first.
Then at the bear.
Then at the judge.
“My teddy records when I’m scared,” she whispered. “I didn’t want them to make Emma go away.”
Daniel’s face twisted.
“She’s confused. She’s seven.”
Lily’s voice grew louder.
“I heard you.”
The room went silent again.
She pointed at Vanessa.
“And I heard her say the baby should be used before it was born.”
Vanessa whispered, “That is not what I meant.”
Emma’s attorney stood.
“Your Honor, we request immediate protective orders for Emma, the unborn child, and Lily, as well as sanctions for fraudulent filings and false sworn statements.”
Daniel slammed his hand on the table.
“This is my daughter. You can’t take her from me because of a toy.”
Judge Whitaker leaned forward.

“No, Mr. Parker. The toy did not create the problem. It preserved the truth.”
👉 Daniel thought the teddy bear was just a toy — but the judge saw it as evidence.
