Chapter 14 - THE REPLICA HOUSE

Federal teams entered the facility.
Rooms reproduced our home exactly.
Front door.
Alarm keypad.
Birthday envelope.
Backpack.
Black shoe.
Each object placed according to the original footage.
Actors and trained replacements practiced different outcomes.
The colonel blames his wife.
The wife confesses.
The daughter dies.

Independent teams disconnected regional servers one by one.
Slower.
Messier.
No single commander.
Safer.
Then HOUSEHOLD played a final video.
I returned home.
Found Violet.
Called 911.
Everything identical.
Except in this version, Violet opened her eyes and said:
“Dad did it.”
A synthetic accusation.
Designed to poison memory.
Violet watched the clip.
Then said, “That’s not what happened.”
Reality did not need the machine’s agreement.
Years passed.
Violet recovered physically.
Emotionally, healing came in uneven pieces.
Claire built a separate life near us.
Harper and I divorced but remained accountable co-parents under Violet’s boundaries.
Nathan served his sentence.
Laura testified internationally.
General Brooks died under verified care.
No false funeral.
Ashbourne’s network fractured.
Then, on Violet’s twenty-first birthday, a card arrived.

Same handwriting as the envelope in the hallway.
DAD — OPEN ALONE.
