Chapter 13 - The Windshield Warning

I reached my car parked on street.
A white envelope rested on windshield wiper.
I picked it up with cautious fingers.
I opened the flap and pulled note.
A single line of text was written:
"Look inside the silver suitcase, Laura."
My heart skipped a beat with dread.
I unlocked the trunk of my car.
I popped open the heavy silver suitcase.
Inside lay a ticking digital countdown clock.
And a secure satellite phone blinking red.
The digital screen showed ten minutes left.
My phone buzzed with an incoming call.
I answered the call with shaking hands.
"Tick tock, Laura. Enjoy your victory."
"You cleared the bank, but missed bomb."
The line went dead with a click.
I looked at the digital numbers flashing.
Eight minutes remaining until total structural blast.
