The remaining wedding guests fled the property fast.
Only Penelope, Evelyn, and I remained outside.
Penelope sat on a folding chair, weeping.
Evelyn glared at me from muddy grass.
"You haven't won, Laura," Evelyn spat out.
"Someone else is pulling strings behind empire."
I raised an eyebrow at former mother-in-law.
"Is that so, Evelyn? Who might that be?"
A slow, cold clapping sound echoed out.
We turned toward the shaded arched porch.
A tall man stepped out from hallway.
He wore an immaculate dark charcoal suit.
His silver hair was styled neatly back.
He held a crystal glass of whiskey.
My heart stopped beating for a second.
The man walking toward us was Arthur Sterling.
Everyone believed he died in a crash.
Arthur Sterling stepped into bright Florida sunlight.
He smiled warmly, but eyes remained cold.
