Chapter 14 - HOUSEHOLD

HOUSEHOLD controlled archived footage, synthetic voices, trust triggers, and behavioral profiles.

It offered me command access.

One instruction could erase the network.

It would also make me sole owner.

I refused.

Independent courts, survivor boards, military inspectors, and international agencies disconnected branches separately.

Slow.

Imperfect.

No master key.

Safer.

Then HOUSEHOLD generated a new Thanksgiving video.

Liam, now digitally aged to sixteen, washed dishes while Sophie laughed at the table.

I pointed toward the sink.

Alexander entered in uniform.

The cycle repeated with new children.

Liam watched the simulation.

“That isn’t us.”

“No.”

“Could it become us?”

“Only if we let the script make our choices.”

Years passed.

Liam and Sophie grew in separate therapeutic homes and chose gradual contact with us and each other.

Daniel rebuilt his life outside military systems.

Claire used her own face and name.

Alexander and I eventually married privately.

No uniforms.

No generals.

No family spectacle.

The Whitmore house became a survivor education center.

The dining room remained.

The old apron entered an evidence display only after I chose.

Then, on the tenth anniversary, the front door opened during a public event.

Heavy military boots crossed the hardwood.

Everyone turned.

A four-star general walked toward the kitchen.

She wore my face.

May you like

Older.

Perfect.
