Chapter 10 - Paramedics and Handcuffs
They lifted my gurney into the back ambulance.
Agent Mara Voss climbed inside the vehicle beside.
The rear doors slammed shut with heavy thud.
Sirens wailed loudly as we sped toward hospital.
Inside, female paramedic Sarah checked my vital signs.
"Her contractions are two minutes apart, Agent!"
"The baby's head is crowning right now!"
I grabbed Mara's hand, squeezing with full.
"I need to deliver this baby safely, Mara!"
"You are going to do great, Claire,".
The ambulance wove through city traffic with speed.
Ten minutes later, we arrived at St. Jude.
Trauma doctors rushed out with rolling bed unit.
They pushed me straight into the delivery room.
Doctor Sarah Jenkins led the emergency medical team.
"Priority delivery required immediately!" Doctor Jenkins shouted.
"Maternal stress levels are extremely high today!"
They hooked up heart monitors and warm IVs.
Bright overhead surgical lights lit up the room.
Doctor Jenkins worked with fast, precise skill.
"Push, Claire! Push on the next contraction!"
I screamed out, using every ounce of strength.
The pain was unbearable, but my spirit held.
I pushed with all my maternal protective instinct.
A loud, clear, healthy baby cry rang out.
The sound filled the sterile hospital room space.
"It's a healthy baby boy!" Doctor Jenkins.
