Chapter 13 - Arrests at the Altar

Two armed bailiffs dragged Victoria out side doors.

Her weeping cries faded down the marble hallway.

Celeste and Evan were led away in heavy chains.

The family that tried to crush me was gone.

I walked out of the courthouse onto steps.

Bright morning sunshine bathed the stone plaza below.

Reporters flashed cameras, asking us for statements today.

I looked directly into the main television camera.

"Truth, justice, and protection will always defeat cruelty."

I stated calmly, holding my baby boy close.

Agent Mara Voss walked beside me smiling warmly.

"You did an incredible job, Agent Claire."

"Thank you, Mara, now I focus on family."

We stepped into my private SUV, driving home.

I bought a cozy two-story house near coast.

Surrounded by green trees and fresh sea breeze.

Far away from the toxic memories of past.

Two months passed peacefully in our new home.

My son Leo grew bigger and healthier every day.

He had bright hazel eyes and sweet smile.

I returned to my work at federal office.

Everything seemed safe, secure, and perfectly complete now.

Tonight was a warm, quiet Sunday near ocean.

The sunset painted the sky in pink gold.

I sat on my front porch drinking tea.

Baby Leo was fast asleep in his crib.

A mail courier van pulled up to driveway.

The driver stepped out holding a brown package.
