Chapter 10 - The Door Opens

The cabin door opened.

Two airport police officers entered first.

Behind them came three federal agents and an emergency medical team.

No one rushed.

No one shouted.

The calmness frightened Cynthia more than chaos would have.

The lead federal agent spoke with Monica and the air marshal.

Rachel moved aside so paramedics could examine Daniel.

They checked the burns.

One paramedic carefully disconnected the prosthetic socket.

Daniel’s face tightened.

Pain flashed across his weathered features.

He did not make a sound.

The damaged arm was placed inside a padded evidence container.

A federal agent sealed it.

Cynthia watched the evidence tag close.

Then an officer approached her.

“Cynthia Langford?”

She remained seated.

“My attorney is on the way.”

“You may speak with counsel. We need you to come with us.”

“Am I under arrest?”

“At this time, you are being detained in connection with an onboard assault.”

She gripped the seat.

“I’m not leaving until my husband gets here.”

The air marshal stepped closer.

“You must comply.”

Cynthia looked around the cabin.

She searched for support.

The passengers remained seated.

Several still held their phones.

“Tell them it was an accident,” she said to Daniel.

He was being transferred into a medical wheelchair.

He looked at her.

“You had every opportunity to tell the truth.”

Her lips trembled.

“You’re going to ruin my life.”

Daniel’s expression hardened.

“You poured the coffee.”

The officers asked her to stand.

She rose slowly.

Her high heel caught against the seat rail.

For a second, she nearly fell.

Rachel reached instinctively to steady her.

Cynthia jerked away.

“Don’t touch me.”

Rachel withdrew her hand.

Even now.

Even while being removed.

Cynthia could accept no help without treating it as humiliation.

The officers escorted her toward the front.

As she passed Kayla, she whispered, “Delete it.”

Kayla looked at her phone.

“No.”

Cynthia stepped into the jet bridge.

The cabin released a collective breath.

Then Paul Harris began clapping.

Daniel raised one hand.

“Please don’t.”

The applause stopped.

He did not want a performance.

He wanted medical care.

He wanted the evidence preserved.

And he wanted Cynthia’s punishment to come from facts, not public rage.

👉 Cynthia had been removed from the aircraft—but Daniel still did not know whether the evidence inside his prosthetic had survived.
