One of the passengers who submitted video was an engineer named Samuel Price.
He sat six rows behind Daniel.
When federal investigators interviewed him, he appeared nervous.
Not because of the assault.
Because he recognized the prosthetic model.
Samuel worked for Northstar Biomechanics.
He had helped design the moisture seal.
The defective component.
Investigators asked whether he knew Daniel was carrying evidence.
“No.”
“Did you recognize the arm?”
“Yes.”

Samuel remained silent.
The agent placed Cynthia’s assault video on the table.
The cracked housing was visible.

He stayed silent.
On the plane, he watched Daniel get burned.

The moment broke something in him.
Samuel opened his work laptop.
“I have the source code.”
The hidden diagnostic file Daniel’s device could no longer provide existed in Samuel’s private backup.
It showed that Northstar engineers programmed the prosthetic to suppress moisture warnings after repeated failures.
The company feared a recall.
Samuel also had emails from executives.
One read:
Veterans will tolerate inconvenience if the alternative is losing access to advanced devices.
Another said:
Do not create written records that imply safety risk.
Monica called Daniel.
“The corrupted file no longer matters.”
Daniel sat upright.
“What happened?”

“Why?”
“He was on the plane.”
Daniel looked toward the dark window.
