Chapter 5 - The Cabin Camera

Commercial aircraft did not normally record passengers throughout the cabin.
But this flight carried a temporary security system.
The Justice Department liaison traveling in first class had requested surveillance because of the evidence Daniel transported.
A discreet federal camera had been installed near the forward galley.
Its view included Daniel’s row.
The air marshal knew.
Daniel did not.
When the plane began descending, the liaison entered the economy cabin.
She introduced herself as Special Agent Monica Hale.
Cynthia looked at her dark suit and federal identification.
“Why are there so many agents on this flight?”
Monica did not answer immediately.
She examined Daniel’s prosthetic.
The crack had widened.
Liquid seeped near the control panel.
“Colonel, can the data module be recovered?”
“I don’t know.”
Cynthia folded her arms again.
“It’s a fake arm. Buy another one.”
Monica slowly looked at her.
“This device contains technical evidence connected to a federal procurement investigation.”
Cynthia’s mouth opened.
Monica continued.
“It was sealed and scheduled for transfer to a federal laboratory upon landing.”
“I didn’t know.”
“You did not need to know that to avoid pouring coffee on another person.”
Cynthia looked toward the passengers.
“This is being exaggerated because he was in the military.”
Daniel’s expression changed slightly.
Not anger.
Disappointment.
Monica asked the college student for her contact information and permission to preserve the video.
The student agreed.
Other passengers volunteered their recordings.
Cynthia watched evidence accumulate around her.
Then she pointed toward the galley.
“The flight attendant gave me the pot.”
Rachel stepped forward.
“I handed you a cup. You took the pot from the cart while my back was turned.”
“That’s not true.”
Monica looked toward the ceiling.
“The federal security camera will determine that.”
Cynthia’s face drained.
She glanced up.
The camera was small.
Nearly invisible.
But now that she knew where it was, she could not stop staring at it.
Daniel noticed.
People often looked at evidence as though fear could erase it.
Monica leaned toward the air marshal.
“Secure the pot. Do not let anyone clean the prosthetic beyond medical necessity.”
Rachel carefully placed the coffee pot inside a service bag.
Cynthia laughed nervously.
“You’re putting a coffee pot in evidence?”
Monica answered calmly.
May you like
“Yes.”
👉 Passenger videos captured the assault—but the federal camera had also recorded Cynthia smiling before she took the pot.
