Chapter 8 - The Video Goes Live

The college student’s name was Kayla Brooks.
She had not intended to livestream.
But when Cynthia lunged for her phone, Kayla’s thumb accidentally touched the broadcast button.
The final seven minutes of the confrontation streamed publicly.
Viewers saw Daniel stop Cynthia’s wrist.
They heard Rachel accuse her.
They watched Cynthia change her story.
They heard her offer to pay for silence.
By the time the aircraft reached the gate, the video had been shared thousands of times.
Cynthia refreshed her phone.
Messages flooded the screen.
Some were from strangers.
Others were from people she knew.
Her employer.
Her sister.
Members of her church.
Her husband.
One message read:
Do not speak to anyone until I reach you.
Another came immediately afterward.
You poured coffee on a federal witness?
Cynthia stared at it.
Her husband already understood what she did not.
This was larger than an inflight argument.
She looked toward Daniel.
“Please.”
It was the first soft word she had spoken.
Daniel did not answer.
“I lost my temper.”
Rachel stared at her.
“You planned it.”
“No.”
Kayla lifted her phone.
“You watched him before you took the pot.”
Cynthia’s eyes filled.
Not with remorse.
With fear.
“I have children.”
Daniel finally looked at her.
“So do many of the people you endangered.”
“I didn’t endanger the plane.”
“You assaulted a passenger during flight, attempted to seize evidence, ignored crew instructions, and damaged a secured device.”
Monica spoke without emotion.
“That is how the situation will be documented.”
Cynthia began crying.
Passengers watched carefully.
She covered her face.
Then looked through her fingers to see whether anyone had softened.
Nobody had.
The cabin door remained closed while ground authorities coordinated removal.
Daniel sat in pain.
His uniform was stained dark brown.
The prosthetic hung uselessly beside him.
Rachel brought a clean blanket and placed it over his chest.
“I’m sorry this happened.”
“You didn’t cause it.”
“I should have stopped her from taking the pot.”
Daniel shook his head.
“You reacted faster than most people would.”
Rachel looked toward Cynthia.
“She treated you like you weren’t human.”
Daniel’s gaze settled on the cracked arm.

“Some people need disability to make another person smaller. It tells you who they were before they saw the chair.”
👉 Cynthia’s tears changed nothing—but Daniel’s damaged prosthetic contained data that could affect thousands of injured veterans.
