He crossed the distance in three long strides and knelt in the mud beside her.

“I’ve got you,” he said, his voice rough with emotion. “You’re safe now.”

Behind them, Elena watched in stunned silence.

But shock quickly turned into calculation.

Her future had just been threatened.

And she was not about to lose everything.

The next morning the mansion felt tense and quiet.

Arthur had barely slept.

Maya sat in the breakfast room wrapped in a warm blanket while a doctor checked the blisters on her feet.

Arthur stood at the window with his lawyer, Marcus.

“We’ll run a paternity test immediately,” Marcus said. “Just to confirm everything legally.”

Arthur nodded.

But across the room, Elena had already made a decision.
