Chapter 9

Three days later Arthur carried Maya through the front doors of Sterling Estate.
This time she wasn’t a visitor.
She was home.
Her bedroom glowed softly with lavender lights.
On the nightstand sat her repaired wooden box.
Arthur opened it gently.
Inside, the silver hummingbird charm rested beside a photograph of him and Sarah from long ago.
He wound the small music box.
“La Vie En Rose” filled the room.
“Your mother loved this song,” Arthur said quietly. “She’ll never be forgotten here.”
Maya touched the charm carefully.
“She said you were a good man.”
Arthur felt tears prick his eyes.
May you like
“She was right.”
