Then she dialed a number.
“It’s me,” she whispered.
“What do you need?” a man’s voice replied.
“I need the DNA result changed.”
There was a pause.
“That’s expensive.”
“How much?”
“Twenty thousand.”
Elena didn’t hesitate.
“Done.”
Hours later, Marcus opened the email.
Arthur stood beside him.
Maya waited anxiously nearby.
Marcus frowned as he read the result.
Then he slowly turned the screen toward Arthur.

Arthur’s face drained of color.
“That can’t be right.”
But the document looked official.
Marcus exhaled quietly.
“I’m sorry.”
Arthur stared at Maya.
The confusion in her eyes twisted something painfully inside him.
But doubt had already begun to creep in.
Finally he spoke.
“Take her to Child Services,” he told Elena quietly.
