Chapter 3 - The Door Outside Suite 2804

Javier lowered his voice.
“Give Mom the condo documents.”
Sofia stared at him.
“You knew about this?”
“It’s not what you think.”
“You put that clause in the agreement.”
“My mother’s trying to protect the family.”
“From me?”
Carmen folded her arms.
“From women who enter marriage planning their escape.”
Sofia looked from mother to son.
They had rehearsed this.
Every word.
Every accusation.
Every expression of offended innocence.
“I’m going back to the ballroom,” Sofia said.
Javier blocked the hallway.
“Not until we settle this.”
“There’s nothing to settle.”
Carmen stepped closer.
“You have no idea how much Javier sacrificed for this wedding.”
Sofia almost laughed.
Elena had paid for most of the reception.
Sofia had paid for the rest.
Javier contributed only the honeymoon deposit.
“What exactly did he sacrifice?” Sofia asked.
Carmen’s face hardened.
“His future.”
Sofia reached for the door handle.
Javier grabbed her wrist.
“Stop making everything difficult.”
“Let go.”
“Just listen.”
“You’re hurting me.”
His grip tightened.
Sofia twisted free, but the movement tore the lace at her shoulder.
Carmen looked at the damaged gown with disgust.
“Look at you. Always performing.”
Sofia pulled out her phone.
“I’m calling my mother.”
Javier tried to take it.
Sofia stepped backward and accidentally activated the voice recorder.
A red timeline began moving across the screen.
Neither Javier nor Carmen noticed.
Carmen moved closer until Sofia could smell champagne on her breath.
“You will sign the transfer tonight.”
“No.”
“You are already his wife.”
“That doesn’t make my property his.”
“It should.”
Javier looked toward the hotel suite at the end of the corridor.
“Let’s go inside and talk.”
Sofia shook her head.
“I’m leaving.”
She turned toward the service elevator.
Javier caught the back of her arm.
Sofia lost her balance and struck the wall with her shoulder.
Pain shot through her.
She looked at her husband.
His face showed fear.
Not fear that she was hurt.
Fear that someone had heard.
Carmen whispered, “Get her into the room.”

The recorder continued running inside Sofia’s hand.
👉 Sofia’s phone captured Carmen’s next command—and those six words would later destroy every lie they told.
