Chapter 4 - The Command Sofia Recorded

“Make her sign before she leaves.”

Carmen spoke quietly.

But Sofia’s phone captured every word.

Javier dragged a hand through his hair.

“She’s upset.”

“She’ll be more upset when she realizes what happens if she refuses.”

Sofia stared at them.

“What happens?”

Carmen smiled.

“People learn who you really are.”

She removed her own phone and displayed a drafted social-media post.

The post accused Sofia of using Javier for status, hiding assets, and abusing him emotionally.

There were photographs of Javier looking distressed.

Sofia recognized them.

Carmen had taken them after arguments she created.

“You planned this,” Sofia said.

Javier avoided her eyes.

Carmen continued.

“If you sign, none of this becomes public.”

“You’re blackmailing me at my wedding.”

“I’m protecting my son.”

Sofia held her phone behind the folds of her dress.

The recording continued.

“I won’t sign anything.”

Javier’s breathing became shallow.

“Sofia, please.”

“You knew she was doing this.”

“I thought you’d understand after we were married.”

“Understand what?”

“That marriage means sharing.”

“Not through threats.”

Carmen snatched Sofia’s purse from a nearby chair and searched it.

Sofia lunged forward.

“Give me that!”

Carmen found the condo envelope.

Sofia grabbed one end.

Carmen held the other.

The paper tore partially across the top.

Javier stepped between them.

In the struggle, Sofia stumbled and fell against a narrow table.

A decorative vase crashed to the floor.

The noise echoed down the hallway.

A hotel employee called from beyond the door.

“Is everything okay?”

Carmen immediately changed her voice.

“The bride slipped. We’re handling it.”

Sofia opened her mouth to shout.

Javier covered it with his hand.

Only for a second.

But it was enough.

Something inside Sofia changed.

She drove her heel down onto his shoe and pulled away.

Then she ran.

She did not use the elevator.

She pushed through the emergency stairwell and descended twenty-eight floors in a torn gown.

Her shoulder burned.

Her lip bled.

She could hear Javier following several floors above.

Carmen shouted his name.

Sofia reached the parking level and realized her purse and car keys were still upstairs.

But her phone remained in her hand.

And the recording was still active.

👉 Trapped beneath the hotel without her keys, Sofia heard Javier tell Carmen what they would do if she reached the police.
