Chapter 7 - The Attempt to Take the Evidence

Two security officers moved toward Mave.

Garrett stepped in front of her.

“Back away.”

One officer looked toward Warren.

That was enough.

Garrett seized the officer’s wrist before he could reach Mave’s phone.

“I said back away.”

The officer released his grip.

Wedding guests scattered from the confrontation, but their phones remained raised.

Coraline’s composure shattered.

“Garrett, stop humiliating me!”

He turned slowly.

“You tried to hit a woman holding a child.”

“She crashed our wedding!”

“Our wedding?”

Garrett glanced at Posie.

“Did you know about her?”

“No.”

“You knew her name.”

Coraline’s lips trembled.

“I heard Mave say it.”

“You didn’t.”

Evelyn pushed through the crowd.

“This spectacle ends now.”

Mave’s face went pale when she saw her.

Evelyn ignored her and faced Garrett.

“You are emotional. Go inside.”

Garrett laughed once, without humor.

“For four years, you told me Mave took money and abandoned me.”

“She did.”

“Show me the transfer.”

Evelyn hesitated.

“The attorneys handled it.”

“Which attorneys?”

Silence.

Garrett removed his white boutonniere and dropped it onto the flooded pavement.

Coraline stared at it as though he had torn the wedding ring from her hand.

“No,” she whispered.

Garrett looked at the venue doors.

“The ceremony is canceled.”

Coraline grabbed his sleeve.

“You can’t do this because a desperate woman brought some child—”

Garrett pulled his arm free.

“Do not call my daughter ‘some child.’”

The words stunned everyone.

Mave’s eyes filled with tears.

“We don’t have a valid test yet.”

Garrett looked at Posie.

“I don’t need a test to protect her.”

Warren signaled to a driver near the limousines.

The driver opened a rear door.

Evelyn suddenly reached for Mave’s phone.

Mave jerked back.

The device slipped from her wet fingers, struck the pavement, and slid beneath the limousine.

The driver immediately climbed inside.

The engine started.

Garrett lunged toward the vehicle.

“Don’t move that car!”

May you like

But the limousine rolled forward.

👉 The only surviving recording was directly beneath a vehicle controlled by Warren Ashford.
