Chapter 8 - THE FATHER

Richard Walker had founded Walker Development and Walker & Vale’s medical-property division.
He built private rehabilitation centers where legal and medical records could be controlled under one roof.
He also taught Caleb how to appear protective after causing harm.
Sarah remembered Richard saying, “The public believes the person who pays the bill.”
Richard had been declared dead after a hunting accident.
His estate transferred to Lenora.
But bank records showed payments to an offshore medical trust continuing for years.
Ortiz traced the trust to a private island clinic.
Federal agents found Richard alive under another name.
He was seventy-two, partially paralyzed, and receiving experimental treatment.
He agreed to testify against Lenora in exchange for medical protection.
He admitted covering Sarah’s fall, Melissa’s death, and Caroline’s crash.
He denied killing Julia or my mother.
He blamed Samuel.
When asked about Caleb, he looked almost proud.
“He learned quickly.”
Richard revealed Lenora’s archive was hidden beneath the family courthouse.
The Walkers funded the building a century earlier.
A private tunnel connected the law offices, records room, and underground vault.
The archive contained original insurance policies, medical videos, forged guardianships, and recordings Lenora used to control judges.
Rebecca Sloan obtained a federal warrant.
Agents entered the courthouse at night.
The vault had already been opened.
Most files remained.
One cabinet was empty.
REBECCA WALKER.
Lenora or Caleb had taken my file.
Without it, prosecutors still had evidence.
But the missing documents might contain the full ownership plan.
A camera inside the vault captured the intruder.
My sister Anna.
Ortiz turned toward her.
Anna stared at the footage.
“That isn’t me.”
The woman wore her coat and had her face.
But the timestamp showed Anna sitting beside me in the hospital.
A duplicate existed.
Sarah watched the footage and whispered a name.
“Claire.”
May you like
Lenora had another daughter.
Anna’s identical twin.
