The document sat on the table.

Everyone stared at it.

Julian looked confident again.

Too confident.

I studied the signature.

The same copied handwriting.

The same manipulation.

But then I noticed something.

A small mark in the corner.

The same mark Evelyn had placed on every real document she trusted.

A hidden symbol only she and I knew.

The document was fake.

Julian’s face changed.

An elderly woman stepped inside.

Everyone turned.

Julian froze.

Because the woman was holding a sealed envelope.

“My mother gave this to me before she died,” she said.

I stared at her.

Evelyn had never mentioned another person.

The woman walked forward and placed the envelope beside the evidence.

Then she looked directly at Julian.

“She told me if you ever tried to steal everything from Clarissa, I was supposed to open this.”

Julian stopped breathing.

The seal was broken.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

The first line made the entire room go silent.
