The witness was Evelyn’s longtime attorney, Daniel Brooks.
I found him the next morning.
He looked surprised when he saw the document.
“I wondered when you would find this.”
Those words scared me.
Because he expected it.
Daniel explained Evelyn had discovered Julian was moving assets without permission.
“She knew her son was hiding something.”
“What?”
Daniel hesitated.
Then he opened an old file.
Inside were bank records.
Large transfers.
Unknown accounts.
And payments to a woman.
Vanessa.
My stomach turned.
Julian wasn’t just cheating.
He was using Evelyn’s money to build a new life.
But Daniel warned me.
“There’s more.”
He handed me another envelope.
“This is why Evelyn trusted you.”
Inside was a photograph.
Julian.
A lawyer.
And a document I had never seen.
