Chapter 9 - HELEN AND ROBERT’S EQUIVALENT—DANIEL’S PARENTS

Daniel struggled with another fact.

The land trust had been managed after Edward’s death by their mother, Margaret Bennett.

She was alive.

Seventy-one.

Had she known about the forged option?

Investigators examined.

She had received the document from Vanessa and believed it genuine at first.

Then something bothered her.

Edward’s initials.

He always initialed the bottom corner of multi-page agreements.

The option lacked them.

Margaret asked Vanessa.

Vanessa said:

“Dad signed it in a hurry.”

Margaret accepted that.

Too easily.

Later, when Michael raised concerns, Margaret told both children:

“Work it out privately.”

That family instinct again.

Protect appearances.

Avoid conflict.

Margaret did not forge the document.

No evidence showed she participated.

But her avoidance allowed the dispute to grow.

She apologized to Michael eventually.

“I treated a legal concern like sibling drama because admitting something might be wrong frightened me.”

That was accurate.
