Chapter 6 - The Stranger Who Knew The Truth

The message contained only one sentence.
“Brandon wasn’t the only one.”
I showed the officer.
He immediately started tracing the number.
No result.
Anonymous.
Careful.
Professional.
Whoever sent it wanted me to know the truth.
But not who they were.
The hospital room became a place of investigation.
Not healing.
Not anymore.
Brandon was brought back.
He looked exhausted.
Broken.
But I couldn’t forget what happened.
“You hurt our daughter.”
He looked down.
“I never wanted that.”
I almost laughed.
Because intentions didn’t matter when a child was lying in a hospital bed.
The police questioned him again.
This time differently.
“Who helped you?”
Brandon stayed silent.
That silence confirmed there was someone.
Then the officer found another clue.
The magnet container wasn’t from our kitchen.
It came from a private storage room.
A room only three people had access to.
Me.
Brandon.
And Evelyn.
I looked at Evelyn.
She looked away.
Another secret.
Another lie.
Then the doctor entered.
“Nancy woke up.”
I rushed inside.
Her eyes opened slowly.
“Mommy…”
I held her.
“I’m here.”
She looked scared.
“There was a lady.”
My heart stopped.
“What lady?”
Nancy started crying.
“She told me not to tell you.”
Everyone froze.
The police officer stepped closer.
“What did she look like?”
Nancy whispered:
May you like
“She was wearing grandma’s necklace.”
