Chapter 6 - The Child's Truth

The projector continued playing.
Nobody touched the keyboard.
Nobody needed to.
Every new clip spoke for itself.
Jason coaching Emma.
Tessa rewarding her with candy after successful rehearsals.
Emma asking the same heartbreaking question.
"When can Mommy love me again?"
Jason answered gently.
"She already chose the Army instead."
Claire could barely breathe.
Emma clung tighter around her neck.
The little girl's tiny fingers grabbed handfuls of Claire's uniform.
"I'm sorry, Mommy..."
Claire immediately shook her head.
"No, sweetheart."
"You never have to apologize."
Emma cried harder.
"Daddy said you'd leave again."
Claire closed her eyes.
She had survived explosions.
She had survived hospitals.
Nothing hurt like hearing her daughter apologize for trusting her father.
Across the ballroom, Jason finally stopped struggling.
He wasn't watching Claire anymore.
He was watching the projector.

Because another recording had just begun.
👉 The final clip wasn't recorded by Mrs. Porter—it came from Jason's own phone.
